Headache
What it is: A headache is a common pain or discomfort felt in the head or upper neck. Most episodes resolve on their own and are not a sign of a serious medical condition.
Common causes: Frequent everyday triggers include:
- Dehydration or skipping regular meals
- Stress, fatigue, or poor posture
- Colds, flu, or long screen time causing eye strain
- Hormonal changes or overusing pain medications
Self-care: Safe home measures include:
- Drinking plenty of water and getting sufficient rest
- Taking steps to relax and avoiding long periods of screen strain
- Taking simple pain relievers like paracetamol, while avoiding alcohol and unusual sleep routines
When to seek help: Visit a health post, PHC, or hospital if headaches occur frequently, worsen despite self-care, or occur after high-altitude travel. Seek immediate emergency care or call 102 for an ambulance if a headache is sudden and extremely severe, or occurs with a high fever, stiff neck, seizures, confusion, weakness, or vision changes.
If symptoms suggest a serious emergency, call 102 for an ambulance where available.
